Google may soon remove thousands of app's From the Play Store
If you’re an Android user, you have probably noticed that drag through Google’s Play Store can be a pain, mostly due to the crushing amount of "garbage" applications blocking up the service. But that’s about to change.
Google has been sending out notices to developer's across the world, analyzing that it will limit their app's visualness, or remove them from the store completely if they violate the company’s User Data policy.
For most of the effected apps, the warning is related to their lack of a privacy policy. Google’s note states that "Developers have to provide a valid privacy policy when their apps request or handle sensitive user or device information".
Dev's must include a link to a privacy policy on their app's store page and within the apps themselves. These policies reveal how the app collects, uses and shares user data. Additionally, all user data must be handled securely, which includes communication using modern cryptography such as HTTPS.
Google’s actions could probably see millions of apps removed from its play store, including numerous “wifi hacking apps” - those applications that never get downloaded enough to make it into the charts, i.e users have to search for them particularly. Rarely get's update's, leaving them incompatible with newer versions of Android.
As noted by TNW(The Next Web), a lack of desire or even technical knowledge-how could see many developers fail to satisfy with the demand's, especially if the app's are not performing well, leading to their removal from the play store.
-App developer's have time till "March 15" to add the privacy policies.
